Ingredients

2 tbsp. oil,
1 tsp. mustard seeds,
10-12 curry leaves,
1/4 tsp. asafoetida,
Coarsly ground paste of ginger, garlic and chilli,
1 finely chopped onion,
3 finely chopped tomatoes,
1/4 tsp. turmeric powder,
1 tsp. kashmiri red chilli powder,
1/2 tsp. coriander and cumin seed powder,
1 tsp. pickle masala (Achaar masala),
salt,
4 cups water,
1 1/2 cup sprouted moong (green gram),
Misal chivda,
Coriander leaves

Method

– In a pan, heat 2 tbsp. of oil.
– Add mustard seeds, curry leaves, asafoetida, coarsly ground paste of ginger, garlic and chilli and saute it all properly in the oil.
– Then add 1 big finely chopped onion, finely chopped tomatoes, 1/4 tsp. turmeric powder, 1 tsp. kashmiri red chilli powder, 1/2 tsp. coriander and cumin seed powder and 1 tsp. pickle masala into the above ingredients.
– Cook the tomatoes till they are nice and soft.
– Then add a generous amount of salt into the ingredients.
– Once the tomatoes are nicely cooked, add about 3 1/2 to 4 cups of water to it and let the water boil for about 5-7 minutes.
– Add sprouted moong to the above ingredients and let it cook for about 5-6 minutes.
– Once the sprouts are cooked, add some coriander leaves to it.
– Serve the misal with some misal chivda sprinkled on the top or garnish it with some finely chopped onions.
