Dalia Upma – Healthy And Nutritious Breakfast Recipe By Annuradha Toshniwal

Ingredients

To make Dalia:
1 cup Dalia
2 cups water
1 tbsp Oil
Salt to taste

Upma:
1 tbsp oil
1 tsp mustard seeds few curry leaves
1 tbsp sesame seeds
1 dry red chilly
1 green chilly
1 tbsp ginger
2 tbsp urad dal
2 tbsp chanaa dal
1 onion
1 cup mixed vegetables (carrots, beans, peas, potatoes)
1 1/2 cups water
1 tsp salt Lime juice to taste

Coconut chutney:
1/2 cup grated coconut
1/ cup Yogurt Add pinch of salt
1 tbsp oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 dry red chilly
Few curry leaves
1 green chilly chopped

Method

To make coconut chutney:
– In a small bowl, add the grated coconut and the yogurt and mix them well together.
– Then add salt to taste and water and mix it well together till they are moist and keep it aside.
– Heat oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds, curry leaves and whole red chilli and stir them.
– Add this to the coconut chutney that you kept aside.

To make dalia upma:
– Heat oil in a pan and once the oil is hot, add the mustard seeds, white sesame seeds, chopped ginger, whole green chillies, curry leaves and whole red chilli and stir these ingredients together.
– Add the chana dal and udad dal (soaked earlier) to the above ingredients and roast them well.
– When the dal turns slightly golden in colour, add the chopped onion and stir well.
– Add the chopped vegetables
– green peas, potatoes, beans,cauliflower and carrots.
– Add salt to taste and water and cover the pan with a lid until the vegetables cook and turn soft.
– Once the vegetables are cooked, add the dalia and salt to it.
– Mix the dalia well with the vegetables.
– The delicious dalia upma is ready to be served.
